This year, a member of Maccabi Kharkov, Jewish school №170 is celebrating its 25th anniversary. November 27 in Zaporozhye the local Maccabi organization held the first “Swimming Day” competitions, which was attended by pupils of Sunday schools of Jewish communities of Zaporozhye, Melitopol and Berdyansk.
The purpose of these competitions was promoting healthy lifestyle, attracting members of Jewish communities to active physical training and sports. Swimming strengthens the body and is useful for people of all ages. Therefore, the competition was attended by not only those who are professionally engaged in swimming, but all who love this sport.
35 participants took part in the competitions, which were held in five age categories. Stars of Zaporozhye sports were special guests of the competition – Honored Masters of Sports of Ukraine in swimming Svetlana Bondarenko, Irina Bolshakova and Sergey Frolov.
The participants took an active part in the discussion of the role of physical culture and sports in the lives of members of the Jewish community, which was held in the framework of Maccabi Ukraine program “Judaism through sport”. Participants of the competitions were awarded with diplomas and souvenirs.
