In the Chinese city of Veifang, the 14th World Kite-Flying Championship was held, and in Beijing – the 35th World Kite Festival. The Ukrainian team won Gold medals for the best kite. Among the awardees was a member of the Jewish community of Kamensky, Chairman of the Kamensky Union of Journalists, active member of the Maccabi Dnepro, Leonid Broitman.
May 9 at the “Spartacus” stadium in Odessa friendly football matches among the teams of Jewish organizations of the city were held.
The veterans, who have survived the difficult years of WW2, due to their age and state of health, do not leave their homes. Therefore, on the eve of the Victory Day students of the Zaporozhye Sunday Jewish school came to visit the veterans and brought them gifts and congratulations.
One of the students, Lila Spector, shared her experience: “It is very important for me to congratulate the veterans with the Great Victory. It is significant that I personally can thank for all that they have done for us, for our native city. I am proud that we have such countrymen. They are an example of courage and heroism for us”.
April 15 Maccabi Dnepropetrovsk held a seminar “Life and achievements of Jewish athletes – an example for modern Maccabi.” This project is implemented with the support of the Dutch Jewish Humanitarian Fund (JHF) and the European Maccabi Confederation (ECM). 26 participants of the seminar came from Zaporozhye, Melitopol, Berdyansk and Dneprodzerzhinsk.
The participants explore, collect, record and share stories of Jewish athletes. They analyze the role of sports and athletes in the development of Jewish life; record the history of athletes, who played an active role in its revival in Ukraine.
