We are delighted to announce that Arik Ze’evi, Olympian medalist, deputy World champion and 4 times European Champion, has been officially appointed as the 21st Maccabiah Chairman. Arik Ze’evi will be the first Olympian athlete holding this position.
Amir Peled, Chairman MWU, approached Arik to become the 21st Maccabiah Chairman as Ilan Franco asked to end his role due to the postponement of the Maccabiah to 2022. After a number of meetings Arik accepted this offer and noted that he is excited and honored to accept this challenge. This position is a voluntary – public role and demands great attention in completing it.
The Maccabiah has been postponed to July 2022; therefore Arik Ze’evi and the Maccabiah staff have an additional year for organization towards the largest and impressive Maccabiah ever.
Amir Peled: “The decision to nominate Arik Ze’evi as chairman of the 21st Maccabiah is a principled decision and based on the fact that the Maccabiah is the 3rd largest sport event worldwide after the Olympics and the Universiade. Arik as an Olympian medalist will be responsible to organize this mega event along with his personal sports values that will add to his success and to Maccabi World Union’s vision, the largest Jewish, Zionist, Educational and Sports movement”.
Arik Ze’evi: “I am excited and happy to take this great challenge and hold the position of the 21st Maccabiah Chairman. I am fully aware of the Maccabiah, as an athlete, torch bearer and a member of the MWU executive. The Maccabiah Organizing Committee and I will act together to bring Jewish athletes from around the world as well as the elite athletes to take part in the largest Maccabiah ever. I am convinced that many partners will join us so we can accomplish our work plan and turn the 21st Maccabiah into an unforgettable sport and culture event. I will devote the upcoming months to learn in order to contribute in the best manner”.
