April 15 Maccabi Dnepropetrovsk held a seminar “Life and achievements of Jewish athletes – an example for modern Maccabi.” This project is implemented with the support of the Dutch Jewish Humanitarian Fund (JHF) and the European Maccabi Confederation (ECM). 26 participants of the seminar came from Zaporozhye, Melitopol, Berdyansk and Dneprodzerzhinsk.
The participants explore, collect, record and share stories of Jewish athletes. They analyze the role of sports and athletes in the development of Jewish life; record the history of athletes, who played an active role in its revival in Ukraine.
April 22, a similar seminar was held in Odessa. Members of Maccabi Odessa, as well as representatives of Maccabi clubs from Nikolaev and Kherson, took an active part in the seminar.
A very pleasant moment was the teleconference with Israel, when the President of Maccabi Ukraine, Mark Belostotsky, congratulated the audience on the 70th anniversary of the State of Israel. The Champion of the 20th Maccabiah Ilya Koval shared with the participants of the seminar his impressions of the Maccabiah. Vitaly Gilevich shared his experience in organizing and conducting social sports projects.
The aim of the project is to motivate Jewish youth to work actively on restoring our history and activating the activities of Jewish communities on concrete examples.
